It was tough luck on Schakle 04 last night when despite their efforts eventually fell to a 2-0 defeat at home to reigning Champions, Real Madrid. Mid way into the first half, Cristiano Ronaldo powered in a header to hand his team the lead but the German outfit rallied and came agonizingly close to getting an equalizer when youngster, Felix Platte saw his effort hit the cross bar and Atsusto Uchida couldn’t guide the rebound into the Madrid net.
Manager, Roberto Di Matteo was visibly shaken even while on his bench and during his post-match conference blurted out that his side ought to have done better to make the trip to the Spanish capital much easier on them. He believed that if Schakle 04 had been more lethal in front of goal last night, the European champions would never have gotten off easy but the former Chelsea boss noted that considering the efforts of his team, a little bit of luck would have better propped them for the return leg.
Since the hosts couldn’t get their equalizer, Ronaldo again waltz past two Schakle 04 defenders to lay a short pass to Marcello and the Brazilian who was poorly marked curled his effort past the Schakle goalkeeper to register his team’s second goal of the night. The Italian tactician knowing fully well the herculean task that his team now faces could not but express his dissatisfaction on the outcome of the match.
He revealed to reporters that he urged his players to get into the game and give the visitors a run for their money and after missing some good chances in the first period they tried to get a better result after the break. He also admitted that by failing to take their chances when they had them, it was bound to get distasteful especially against an opposition like Real Madrid.
