In what could be the most soothing story for many Manchester United fans, Jorge Mendes who represents David De Gea has hinted that the odds favour the goalkeeper to remain at Old Trafford for the next couple of years. This statement came at a time when the media is already agog with De Gea’s possible move to Real Madrid in the summer.
Although the Spaniard remains coy on committing the next few years to Manchester United prompting Louis van Gaal to announce that anything is possible regarding David’s future, Mendes who also represents, Di Maria and Radamel Falcao believes that his client still holds the Old Trafford outfit dear to his heart and might consider extending his stay at the club.
Despite the fact that David had earlier downplayed the entrant of Victor Valdes as a threat to his place in the squad, the atmosphere became more tensed when the former Barcelona stopper came on board and some pundits began to suggest that the number 1 spot between the sticks might be more competitive- a situation that will greatly benefit the club as both keepers will continue to strive to be at the top of their game. However considering the steady form that David has shown so far this season, the chances of Valdes to relegate him seem to thin away with each passing game.
While speaking to BBC Sport, Mendes noted that David still has about 12 months left on his contract but that he expects him to commit to a few more years with the club. The agent also stated that the most important thing is that David is happy at Old Trafford at the moment and that could only signal a good omen for the Old Trafford outfit. On the Falcao issue, Mendes admitted that Manchester United might not review the player’s loan agreement but added that whatever happens, he is sure that Falcao will play at the highest level in European football next season.
